Gigi Perez paid a visit to Indianapolis last Monday, performing her show Gigi Perez Live! to a sold out crowd.

Kicking off the night was Camille Blackman, who stepped onto the stage for the first time in front of a crowd this size.

Her raspy, soulful vocals brought a rawness to the room, blending soft, intimate moments with a grittier edge that gave her sound plenty of character.

“Mouse” became a standout. The “see-saw, up-down” moment had the crowd joining in, and it was the kind of catchy little hook that you could hear people singing back almost immediately.

For the first time playing to a crowd this size, Blackman made a strong impression.

It’s hard to look at everything Gigi Perez has accomplished this year and not wonder how much longer she’ll be playing rooms like the Egyptian Room.

Between festival appearances, major opening slots and taking “Sailor Song” all the way to No. 1, Perez is quickly becoming an artist who belongs on much bigger stages.

Still, there was something special about seeing her in a room this size.

Perez’s stage presence was impossible to miss. Whether she was mouthing “I love you” to fans, walking the barricade, or joking around with her bandmates, she constantly found ways to make a sold-out room feel smaller.

The biggest emotional moment came when Perez brought her sister onstage for “Sugar Water,” a song they wrote together.

Perez ended the night, by singing her most notable hit “Sailor Song.”
