Finnish symphonic metal band Amberian Dawn are stepping into a bold new chapter with the announcement of their ninth studio album, Temptation’s Gates, set for release on June 26 via Napalm Records. Alongside the new album comes a major lineup change, as Swedish English musician Nicole Willerton joins the band as their new vocalist, taking over from longtime frontwoman Capri, who has stepped away due to scheduling commitments.
Founder, composer, and multi instrumentalist Tuomas Seppälä shared a heartfelt message regarding the transition, expressing gratitude for Capri’s decade long contribution to the band. During her time with Amberian Dawn, she recorded five albums, toured internationally, and played an integral role in shaping the group’s sound. Seppälä emphasized that she will always remain a valued part of the band’s history.
Looking ahead, the band is energized by the addition of Willerton. Seppälä praised her versatility, professionalism, and creative drive, noting that her presence has already made a significant impact on the band’s evolving sound.
Fans can get their first taste of this new era with the release of the title track, “Temptation’s Gates.” Serving as both the album opener and its namesake, the song delivers a fast paced and cinematic introduction filled with sweeping orchestrals and vivid storytelling. It marks a confident step forward for the band as they expand their sound into a more modern and occasionally heavier direction, moving beyond the identity shaped by their 2022 release Take a Chance: A Metal Tribute to ABBA, which paid homage to ABBA.
Seppälä described the track as an intense and uncompromising burst of energy, designed to be relentless from beginning to end. He reflected on an idea first discussed years ago with late founding member Tommi Kuri, to create a song driven entirely by momentum and force. “Temptation’s Gates” brings that vision to life, blending the band’s signature elements, including a dynamic guitar and keyboard solo exchange, with a renewed sonic direction that longtime fans have been eager to hear.
For Willerton, the track explores themes of self acceptance and inner conflict. She explained that the lyrics delve into confronting personal desires and embracing one’s true identity, even when it clashes with expectations. Drawing inspiration from Les Fleurs du mal by Charles Baudelaire, she channels a sense of rebellion and liberation through struggle, adding depth and emotional intensity to the song’s narrative.
With Temptation’s Gates, Amberian Dawn are not just introducing a new voice but redefining their sound with renewed confidence and purpose.

“When I started working with our new singer, I felt the same kind of excitement I had years ago when I began creating our debut album back in 2007 and 2008. At that time, AMBERIAN DAWN were still newcomers to the band world, even though we were already experienced musicians. With Temptation’s Gates, I felt that same spark of creating something new for the first time in a long while. I hadn’t composed many songs yet when I began collaborating with our new vocalist. Most of the material came together surprisingly fast once I realized how easy and natural it was to work with her. I was deeply inspired by Nicole’s enthusiasm, dedication, and efficiency. I truly feel that the band has been reborn with her joining us. Musically, our style has evolved once again, perhaps moving slightly back toward a heavier, more metal-driven direction. At the same time, elements of our classic sound and identity are naturally still present. In many ways, creating this album felt like going back to my roots. For the first time in a long while, I also took on a bigger role as a guitarist. I focused more on crafting guitar riffs, played roughly half of the guitar leads on the album, and even performed one full guitar solo myself.”

“Temptation’s Gates is the first album I’ve sung on and recorded with AMBERIAN DAWN, and it has been a beautiful experience. While writing the lyrics, each song was inspired by feelings, memories, and moments that were especially prominent during the creation of the album. Writing the lyrics felt like diving into the subconscious, bringing these emotions to the surface. It was wonderful to explore the creative process of arranging the backing vocals. I especially love how AMBERIAN DAWN’s music makes strong use of backing vocals, helping to create a fuller, richer sound around the lead vocals. It’s definitely a fiery album that combines a broad spectrum of emotional depths, ranging from love and melancholy to darker elements such as fear and inner struggles. A recurring message throughout the album is to embrace one’s true desires and to accept and acknowledge one’s honest feelings.”

Amberian Dawn further unveil their new era with the album’s title track, “Temptation’s Gates,” a fast moving and immersive opener driven by soaring keyboards and vivid storytelling. The band’s renewed intensity carries into “The Vision of Dreaming,” where a striking, memorable riff leaves a lasting impression and hints at Nicole Willerton bringing far more than delicate, ethereal vocals to the table.
That expectation is quickly reinforced with “Moon,” which surges forward with blistering speed while maintaining a sense of mysticism right up to its abrupt conclusion. The energy spills seamlessly into “Unchained,” where Willerton fully showcases her range by introducing powerful growls that sharply contrast her angelic delivery, marking a first for the band. By this point, Temptation’s Gates makes it clear that Amberian Dawn have moved beyond familiar territory, stepping confidently into a heavier and more dynamic identity.
Tracks like “Eternal Flame” and “Life is Art” lean into the band’s signature grandeur, pairing sweeping arrangements with expressive guitar work, while continuing to push their sound forward. Meanwhile, “The Night is Waiting for Me” embraces a more modern edge, blending dark metal elements with an infectious rhythm that immediately draws listeners in.
Balancing this evolution, the ballad “Undying Colours” offers a return to a more familiar atmosphere, guiding listeners through a layered and dreamlike soundscape. This sense of introspection carries into “The Garden,” which frames the album’s more reflective moments. Closing the record, “Phantasmagoria” delivers an irresistibly danceable finale, proving that symphonic metal can evolve into something contemporary without losing its theatrical charm.
