The night opened with Disembodied Tyrant, stepping onto the stage with a slightly different lineup than usual. With their vocalist recovering from a recent accident, Ryan and Trevor took over frontman duties for the night. An unexpected shift that could have easily thrown another band off balance. Instead, they delivered a performance that was raw, focused, fiercely committed, and channeling the band’s signature darkness with impressive unity. Even early in the evening, the venue was already packed, and the crowd responded with full force, pulled immediately into the atmosphere they created. The band also acknowledged their vocalist’s absence, and the crowd’s reaction made it clear that everyone is wishing him a full and steady recovery.

AngelMaker followed, instantly shifting the room into a higher gear. Their dual-vocal assault and razor-sharp execution had the crowd roaring before the first breakdown even landed. The sold out venue responded in waves, heads banging, pits forming, and the energy climbing higher with every track. AngelMaker’s set felt like a collision of technical precision and pure chaos, raising the stakes and feeding the already electrified atmosphere.

By the time Bodysnatcher took the stage, the crowd was primed and restless, and the band delivered exactly the kind of set that thrives in a tightly packed room. Their performance was heavy, physical, and unapologetically intense! The pit exploded, the crowd roared back every word, and the band’s raw presence cemented the momentum that would carry straight into Whitechapel’s arrival.

Whitechapel recently made their stop in Pittsburgh on their “Rituals of Hate” tour and it was a night to remember. From the energy of the fans welcoming them to the stage to the very end of their performance; they brought the brutality, and emotional intensity.
Mr. Smalls Theatre was already overflowing long before the first note hit, every inch of the room claimed by fans pressed close in a sold-out swarm of heat and adrenaline. The energy was electric, alive, crackling through the venue as shadows stretched across the stage. In that moment before the set began, it was clear Pittsburgh was in for something spectacular!
Shooting the show from the pit felt like stepping directly into the pulse of the room. With the venue sold out and bodies pressed tight behind me, every cheer, every stomp, every breath from the crowd resonated through the floor. As Whitechapel tore into their set, the energy hit like a physical force! The lights flashing, riffs hitting with precision, and the crowd responding in a wave of movement that never slowed. Even from behind the lens, it was impossible not to get swept up in the intensity of it all.
By the time the final notes faded and the lights lifted, Mr. Smalls felt transformed. It was sweaty, breathless, and buzzing with the kind of collective electricity only a show like this can create. Whitechapel delivered a performance that was not just loud, but deeply commanding, meeting the crowd’s anticipation with pure force and razor sharp execution. For Pittsburgh, it wasn’t just another night. It was a night that hit hard, lingered long after the doors opened, and reminded everyone why this band continues to set the bar for live heavy music. What an incredible experience to be apart of!
I recommend catching them if they stop by your city! You will NOT be disappointed!
